DUNEDIN.
September 21. At the City Court yesterday J. B. Stoven, alias Charles Hpilsbury was charged with obtaining £140 from John W. Brindley. At tbe outset it was stated that the prosecutor wished to withdraw the information, as tbe prisoner was found to be of respectable parentage, but the police refused to consent to withdraw, Mr Chapman, who appeared for
(he prosecutor declined to offer evidence. Inspector Weldon insisted on the case being gone on witb, as there was no doubt a crime was committed. The bench took till 2 o'clock to consider what action they would fake. George O'Brien has been committed for trial for larceny. The city mayoralty contest will be between Mr Ross, the present Mayor, and Councillor Gore.
