Mr l>. H. M'Kenzie to-day received the following cablegram from his agent at Newcastle:—At Yokohama the barque Wellington is a total loss. The crew are saved. The Wellington was uninsured. She left N/eweaatle on June

11th with coals for Yokohama, and it is not known whether she discharged her cargo or not. She was commanded by Capt. Dick." Replying to an application for the use of the paddock at the back of Government House as a playground for the Grammar School boys, the Governor said he would not encourage people in not providing a proper playground, but would give temporary permission to occupy the ground for six months. Bailley, a boat builder at the North Shore, had two of his fingers taken off with a circular saw to-day.
