AUCKLAND.

An influential meeting wa3 held yesterday to promote the formation of a steam company to be called the " Auckland and South Pacific Steam Company," with a capital of half a million. Upwards of 5000 shares were subscribed for in the room.
At yesterday's meeting of the Waste Lands Board it was stated that 122,000 acres bad been declared waste lands by the Government.
By the Te Anau 15,000 brown trout ova were received, and they have been taken to Henderson's mill creek to be hatched there. The ova were successfully deposited in hatching places which had been previously prepared. Tbe Australia mail steamer took £60,000 worth of gold for Caiifornia.
