Governmßiit Gazstte. rpAKE NOTICE.—That it is the intention of the JL Eabbifc Trusteee for the Hawka'a Bay dietrict on the 7th day of October, 1881, to strike a Bate of one Sixth of ■* Pennj per Acre for the period commencing on the let of September, 18S1. and ending 81st August, 1882, payable in one sum on the 2nd Januarj,lSß2. A LTHOUGH thie office has been in existence for A a period of more than seven years, it Is believed that the objects for which it was established are not sufficiently known or understood. It is deeired to set forth in a concise form information respecting the business which this office undertakes: 1. The charge of all kinds of money trusts, such as Marriage Settlements, monies to be invested for the benefit of Minors, moneys bequeathed for charitable objects, monej s the title to which is in dispute, or whose legal owner is unknown or cannot be found, etc., etc. 2. The administration of the wills of persons who by appointing the Public Trustee as their executor secure the guarantee of the State for the due fulfilment of iheir wishes, and avoid the risk consequent on the appointment of private persons as executors, who not unfrequently, though earnestly desirous of acting for the benefit of the parties interested, fail to carry out legally the objects for which they were appointed, and consequently involve themselves and those whose interests they are striving to protect in costly and harrassing litigation. 3. The administration of all estates of which no disposition has been made by will, whenever relatives do not wish to incur the responsibility of administration, or cannot from any cause obtain the necessary powers to act. In such ca=es it is the duty of the Public Trustee to discharge all legal debts so far as the assets extend, and divide the residue amongst the next of kin. 4. The administration of the estates of lunatics, lunatic patients, and convicts. 6. The charge of lands lying waste and unoccupiod of which the owner is unknown, or who has been absent from the colony for ten years, having left no known agent. A T a meeting of Wardens of the Petane Road ___ Board District, held on Saturday, the 3rd September, it was resolved that the Rate of 8d in the £ which was struck on the 18th August, be made payable on the Ist November, 1881.
