(from our own correspondent.) Wbiiington, August 81. It was proposed yesterday in the Council that, owing to the stonewalling tactics pursued in the Lower House, and the probability of a prolonged debate, that the Council should adjourn for a fortnight, as it was. useless waiting about for something to do while the obstructive proceedings were continued. The following return was tabled yesterday, showing the number of births and deaths of children in the colony (the deaths within six months of registration) for the last four years to the latest date obtainable, , and the number of children successfully vaccinated. The years taken are 1877, 1878, 1879, and 1880, and the births registered respectively are as follows: — 16,856, 17,770, 18,070, 19,341; deaths, 1103, 1086, 1407,1299 ; cases of successful vaccination, 11,495,10,746,12,384,13,628.
