Friday. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. EEAYE OP ABSENCE. Leave of absence was granted to Mr Havfc for the rest of the session. BILLS. A bill to provide for the settlement of the theromal spring districts of the colony was brouglit in by Mr Whitaker and read a first time. The Canterbury Rivers Act Amendment Bill, the Waimate Racecourse Reserve Bill, the Waimakariri Harbor Board Loan Bill, the Q-eraldine Racecourse Reserve Bill, the Roxborough Racecourse Reserve Bill, the Invercargill Gas Works Site Bill, the_ Waimate and Temuka Schools Reserves Bill, the Christchurch Streets Alignment Bill, the Rangiora High School Bill, the Kaikora Harbor Regulation Bill, the Akaroa High School Bill, and the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Association Bill were brought from the Lower House and read a first time. An Imprest Supply Bill was passed through all stages. The Otago University Reserves Vesting Bill was recommitted and further amended. SELLING THE HONORARIUM. On the motion of Mr Waterhouse, without notice, a select committee was ap{lointed to enquire into an allegation that ast year while there was considerable doubt what would be done with respect to the honorarium of Councillors one Councillor had sold his chance to a member of the Lower House. BILE THROWN OUT. On the motion for the second reading of the Kakanui Harbor Bill it was thrown out by 14 to 9. TIMARU HARBOR BOARD BILE. Mr Waterhouse gave notice to introduce a rating clause in the Timaru Harbor Board Bill, and its committal was thereupon laferred till Tuesday. The Council rose at 4.45.
