August 12. The Irish Land Bill was again under consideration in the House of Lords today, when the original amendments made in committee were insisted upon by a large majority. Earl Granville in the course of the debate protested solemnly aerainet the action of the House. The bill as read was agreed to, and its reconsideration will be resumed in the House of Commons on Monday next. It is understood that the Government will firmly oppose the amendments of the House of Lords. August 13. The Standard in to-day's issue, in reference to the Irieh Land Bill, states that the moderate Conservatives in Parliament condemn the tactics of the Marquis of Salisbury and his followers in the House of Lords in dealing with the measure. In the House of Commons to-day a motion condemning the adoption of the system of specific impost duties by France was after a debate rejected. In the course of the discussion Sir Charles Dilke, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, stated that the Government was determined to conclude no fresh commercial treaty with Prance which would act to the prejudice of the British trade.
