LONDON.
July 25. The funeral of the late Dean Stanley took place in Westminister Abbey today in the presence of a large number of dignitaries of tbe church, members of the ministry, and others of high rank, who assembled to do honor to his remains. Many of the deceased's private friends and numerous spectators were also present. The ceremony was conducted throughout with great impressiveness. In the House of Commons to-day a question was put to the Home Secretary with regard to the reported seizure of infernal machines which had been brought from America to Liverpool among the cargo of the ship Malta. In reply Sir W. Vernon Harcourt confirmed tbe report, and said that the machines bad been confiscated by the authorities at Liverpool. In the House of Commons to-day, a motion introduced by Sir Michael Hicks Beach censuring the Government for tbe terms of peace concluded in March last with the Transvaal Boers was, after a lengthy debate, rejected hy a majority of 109, the voting being 314 to 205.
