Thursday. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. QUESTIONS. Replying to Captain Eraser, Mr Whitaker said the Government had done and would do everything possible to settle disputes between the natives and Mr Harding, afc Waipawa, Hawke's Bay. The Banks and Bankers Act Amendment Bill was again committed and further amended, one amendment being that it is not to come into operation till January Ist, 1882. The Regulation of Election Bill was passed through committee, and an amendment by Mr Reynolds to make voting compulsory, under the penalty of being struck off the roll, being rejected. The Oamaru Harbor Board Bill was partly passed through committee. The Council rose afc 5 p.m.
