Auckland, July 18
The Southern Cross, which arrived from Levuka to-day brings the following Fiji news: — The schooner Windward-Ho reports the sbootiug one ot its boat's crew at Pentecost Island. Satisfaction is expressed at the presence of the United States frigate in tbose waters, as the natives who murdered the May Queen crew are believed to be tie same as those who murdered one Johnson, an American trader, and the American war ship ia expected to demand reparation. A deputation waited on tbe Governor to represent the scarcity of labor. The Governor said, owing to v miscalculation by the Agent-General of immigration, and the difficulty of obtainin„ suitable vessels, labor would be scarce this year. Another lot of 150 coolies have been placed on the estate of the Sugar Refining Company at Rewa. Measles are still prevalent in some parts of the group.
