July 12. Mr William Montgomery, M.H.R. has been unanimously re elected chairman of the board of governors of the Canterbury College. Forty-one applications have been received by the agents at home for the mastership of the Canterbury school of art. The board of governors expect to receive the name of the appointed by the next mail, and hope the. school will be open at an early date. At the half-yearly meeting of the Friends of Labor Loan Society this evening the report will show tbat there are 286 members holding 854 shares. The capital of the society now amounts to £3690 18s Id. During the half year £2274 had been granted in loans to members, and the profit amounted to £450. A dividend of 7 J per cent is to be declared.
