In tbe Supreme Court to-day the charge of perjury against Shepherd, a Whaiawhata settler, broke down on a technical flaw in tbe indictment.
The Juvenile Pinafore Company were summarily brought to Auckland last night. Owing to the prevalence of scarlet fever at the Thames the local health board had prohibited the holding of a matinee.
The quarantine officer yesterday refused to recognise the recommendation of (he local board of health for releasing the Hero's passengers, but telegraphed to the Government for instructions. The latter instructed him to release them, and though the board of health was sitting at the time he made no communication to them, but proceeded to order their release himself. On learning of this the board immediately resigned.
