MELBOURNE.

July 8. The diamond drill at Stawell has struck gold at a depth of 1700 feet. The detached squadron, with the exception of tbe Bacchante, is now under orders to proceed to Auckland. Sir Bryan O'Loghlen has selected the following gentlemen to form the new Ministry": —Messrs J. M. Grant, D. Gaunson, J. H. Graves, H. Bolton, the Hon. V. S. Dobson, Mr T. Bent, and Dr. L. L. Smith. The various portfolios have not, however, yet been allotted. July 9. It is announced that Sir Bryan O'Loghlen will be Premier, AttorneyGeneral and Treasurer in the new Ministry. Mr J. M. Grant will fill the portfolios of Chief Secretary and Minister of Education. The other portfolios have not yet been allotted.
