PETANE PIGEON MATCH.
The attendance at Petane yesterday was considerable, and the meeting altogether was one of the pleasantest tbathas taken place in this district. The arrangements were good, the birds plentiful, and the shooting above the average. The following were the three events of the day :— TRIAL SWEEPSTAKES, Of 1 soy. each ; 3 birds, 3 traps, 25 yards rise. Second highest ecorer to receive 2 soys. out of the stakes. 1. J.Leonard 111-1 2. J. W. Wheeler ... 111-0
GRAND HANDICAP SWEEPSTAKES. Of 1 soy. each ; 7 birds, those misaiDg three to retire ; 3 traps. Winner four-fiftb, second highest scorer onefifth, third highest scorer a pair of pea fowls. 1. J. P. Hamlin (25 yds) 1011111-101 2. W. Wickham (28£ yds) 1111110-100 S. C. Eeynes (22 yds) ... 1001111 PEtfANE STAKES. Handicap to be made on the ground ; a sweep of 1 soy. each; 3 birds, 3 birds, 3 traps. Second highest scorer to receive 2 soys. out of the stakes. 1. J. P, Hamlin (29 yds) 111 2. H.L.Donnelly(2syds) 011 There were four ties for second place in this match, and in shooting off it fell to Mr Donnelly. A first-class dinner was provided in Mr Villers* hotel at the close of the shooting, and the sportsmen returned to town evidently well satisfied with the day's sport.
