Berlin Congress—Lucy 3 AThe dinner that always brings the j annual ploughing matches to a fitting *~~ termination "was held at Mr Beecroft's Hotel, Hastings, Mr J. Bennett in the chair, and Mr R. Wellwood, in the vicechair. Between fifty and sixty sat down to a most excellent repast, to which full justice having been done the usual loyal toasts were given and heartily responded to. The following other toasts were then proposed and drunk with due honors:—By the Vice-chairman, "The successful Competitors"; by Mr J. Moore, " The unsuccessful Competitors "; v_, by the Chairman, -■ The Maori Competitors," to which Hori Mangaria returned thanks; by the Chairman, " The Judges," responded to by Mr White ; by Mr White " Local Industries," coupled with the names of Messrs A. Jones and 0. Doney, responded to by Mr Doney ; by the Vice-chairman, " Kindred Agricultural and Pastoral Societies," responded to by Mr Wolters, secretary to the Waxrarapa society; by Mr Moore, " The \ donors of special prizes" ; " Host and >■ Hostess," "The Ladies," and "The Press," followed each other, and were duly acknowledged. Songs were sung between each toast, and the party broke up after a most enjoyable day.
