MUNICIPAL PUBLIC WORKS REPORT.
The Public Works Committee, at its meeting la3t night, recommended the following to be laid before the next sitting of the Mtmicipal Council: — 1. That the Municipal Solicitor be instructed to proceed against the sureties of Mr H. Shaw to recover the amov-it of his defalcations. 2. That tenders be .'nvlted for the works previously authorised by the Council to be done ii Paradise road, in terms of Mr W. R. Blythe's application. 3. That a select committee, consisting of two Councillors, the two Superintendents of Eire Brigades, and the Chief Eire Inspector, be appointed to enquire into and report upon the allotment of the moneys received by way of grant to each briga le. 4. That the repoib of the Municipal Engineer forwarded herewith be adopted. 5. That, with reference to Mr Amner's offer re the removal of his houses in Chaucer road, he he forthwith notified that the Council will not entertain any such proposal, and that lie be allowed a fortnight from the date of siieh notice to remove his houses, fa'ling which the Corporation do the work at his risk. 6. That with reference to crossings over footways the engineer he instructed to draw up a specification of the description of crossing to be adopted, and an estimate of cost of forming the same ; that on application being made, the amount so estimated be paid to the Town Clerk prior to the work being authorised, and that the work be perfermed by Corporation labor under the supervision of the engineer, who is to be authorised to permit crossings to be made where he shall consider necessary. 7. That clause four of bye-law No. 4 of the Borough Council be amended by adding the words " except before 9 a.m. or after 5 p.m. "after the words " Borough of Napier" at t he end of the clause.
