Charles Peterson, charged with stealing from the Waipapa beach a gun belonging to the late Dr. Campbell, lost in the Tararua, was sentenced to two months imprisonment with hard labor. In consequence of the stoppage of the steamer Mountaineer, the Waimea Company have ceased running on the Government railway from the Elbow to Kingston, the traffic as formerly coming via Invercargill three times a week.
