FIRE BRIGADES COMPETITION.
The competition commenced this morning at eleven o'clock. The spectators were not very numerous, and the interest, taken in the events did not appear very great. Of course the different events extend over a considerable time, and it cannot be expected that a large number j>f people will stand in the street under a hot sun for four or five consecutive hours to witness a contest about which they understand very little. Browning-street was blocked for traffic during the day, and it would have been very little trouble or expense for the Brigades to have provided a number of forms on which the ladies, at least , , could have rested during the contest. The following are the events in the order in which they took place up to tbe time of our going to press:— TIRST EVENT. Hose and Hydrant (limited to three teams from each Brigade).
