THOROUGHBRED BROOD MARES FOR NEW ZEALAND.

Aii important consignment of blood stock was made on January 13 by Messrs James McEwari and Co., shipping 'agents, of Lombard Street, for the Auckland Stud Company, consisting of three brood mares, which •wore selected by Sir Hercules Robinson at the Middle Park sale on December 10 last. Sir Hercules purchased seven altogether for the Auckland Stud Company, but tho other four, being expected to foal shortly, are detained in England for the time being. The shipment referred to was made in the steamer Sikh, which sailed from London for Melbourne, on arriving at which port the animals will be transhipped to Auckland. We subjoin a brief description of tho three animals just sonfc out r —Clytemncstra, by Blair Alhol, although 13 years old, still looks like a young filly. She has a pretty head, although her face is white, and besides possessing a handsome., shapely, compact form, girths well; has" good arms, and is capitally ribbed up. Her dam was by

Birdcatcher out of Mickleton Maid by Velocipede. She lias been mated during the past year with Scottish Chief, but is at present believed not to be in foal. The price given for her at the Middle Park sale was 135 guineas. Mersey, by a much younger mare, being foaled in 1574. Her dam was Clcmence, by Newminstcr; dam of Clemcnce, Eulogy hy Euclid out of Martha Leguse by Mulatto. _ Mersey has admirable character, with just enough white in the face to be prettily marked, and is well put together, and strong in action. She was last served hy Scottish Chief on June 10, but it is by no means certain she is in foal. Her figure at tho sale was 150 guineas. Sister Ague?, by Rosicrucian, "is still younger, as she was foaled in 1877. Her dam was Penance by the Plying Dutchman ; her dam Rosary_ by Touchstone, who was sister to Surplice ; dam of Rosary, Crucifix by Priam. Sister Agnes has a pretty star in the forehead, and shows a length of "form and limbs giving the idea of an immonso stretch with great floefcness in action. But she has also plenty of bone and will make a very fine upstanding mare. She comes from Mr T. Blenkiron's stud, and 125 guineas was given for her at Middle Park sale. These three brood mares will form a valuable addition to mate with the Stud Company's Musket, which we perceive gained first prize and was very greatly admired at the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Show on November 8 last. Musket, who was also sent out from England, is by Toxopholite, and his dam was by Western Australian. The other four mares which remain in England to foal are Be.rgere, a valuable seven-year-old mare by Saunterer. She is out of Lass o' Gowrie by Dundee. Her dam, the Belle by Birdcatcher out of Biddy by Brace. She is the dam of Beauchamp H., and is now in foal to Dutch Skater, being last served March 18. As may be supposed, she cost a higher sum than either of tho others already named, being bought at 300 guineas. The highest priced one was, however, Rosette, by Lord Lyon, a young mare foaled in 187G out of Rouge Eose (Bend Or's dam) by Thormanby; her dam, Ellen Home by Redshank out of Delhi by Plenipotentiary. Sh.e was last served May 30 by Scottish Chief ; her figure was 350 guineas.
