MELBOURNE.
March 1. The following further Exhibition awards have been announced to-day:— First order of merit: Misses Brandon, Wellington, for painting on silk; H. Crossby and Co., Wellington, for salted pelts. Second order of merit: Colonial Museum of New Zealand, for phormium tenax. Third order of merit: Mrs Henry Lawson, Welliogton, for gipsy tables; Thomas Benan, junr., Foxton, for fishing gear, etc., from New Zealand flax. Fourth order of merit: W. G. Johnson, Hokitiki, for designs in ferns, mosses, etc; James Seed, Southbrook, Conterbury, manufactures from phormium tenax. It is announced that the Government intend to try Raymond's phnsphorised oats in their endeavor to exterminate the rabbit pest. March 2. A banquet was given to Mr James Service last night prior to his departure for Europe to-day. Five hundred persons were present. The speeches delivered on the occasion were principally retrospective in their character. Arrived, Rotomahana, from tbe Bluff. Sailed, Ringarooma, for the Bluff.
