THE AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS AT OAMARU.

(by telegraph.)

Oamaru, January 25.

The weather was showery yesterday, but it did not interfere much with the play. The Australians resumed their first inning, Groube and Slight, the not outs batting to the bowling of Dalgetty and Borton. The second ball of the latter was well caught behind the wickets by Walls. 5-17—71. Boyle filled the breach. Runs came pretty freely and a change in the howling was made, Cooke going on in Borton's place. Cooke's second ball in his first over scattered Boyle's stumps. 6—22-107. Blackham was the new comer, and after three runs had been scored Groube played one of Cooke's on to his wickets. 7—30—110 Palmer joined Blackham, and after scoring 5 played a ball into Sumpter's hands. 8—5—116. Alexander having joined Blackham the latter was bowled by Millington the next ball. 9-2—116. White, the last man in, very soon gave Dalgetty a chance, which though difficult was held. The innings closed for 118. After the luncheon adjournment the local team went in for their second innings, which closed for 88 runs, leaving the Australians to get 25 to win. It was raining hard when the Australians went to the wickets for their second innings, Boyle and Spofforth batting to the bowling of Cooke and Millington. Off Millington's first over 4 runs were ■cored. Spofforth ther cut Cooke neatly for 2, after which two singles brought 10 up. Another single and then Spofforth got Millington away to the fence for 3. Several stolen runs were taken very cleverly, but time was called before the required number was made, Boyle and Spofforth being not out with 9 and 8. Australians—First innings.
