PROFESSOR HASELMAYER.

According to announcenaeht jHaselruayer gave last night at fiber I Theatre Royal an /Edmost^endrely^fcW 8 ■ programme of; his mysteries,.to, ihouse. Among the novelties Were, thej following.: " The dancing' $$&s'ss.s •which be makes two common dinner' j plates spin and dance 'in a; jastonish those who are Vm'osi' familiar j with the ordinary uses to which" platfet* • are put; "Hot coffee diabdlique" ; which he produces excellentrcoffeeiimilk, | aud sugar, from such' unUkely; as paper. The most interestingifeatftreio of the entertainment was undoubtedly i* Psycho." This. is the. Invention.,, ; oCs; ; Messrs Maskelyne and J. A.jCLarke.jinii was first exhibited in 1875. It is a small I figure dressed in Oriental costume, and ja full inspection of the machinery is permitted. Standing upon a glass cylinder with no attachments of any'kind, the" Ifigure takes part in a .game,of whist, and ia very good game it plays 'too.'''' This invention created a great sensation in iLondon when it came out, and many attempts at discovering' the "wo3tw operandi were made, but the secret;.hasa remained undisclosed to this day. fessor Haselmajer deserves great credit for introducing " Psycho " to this part of ithe world, and in every way this wonderful automaton is the most interesting feature of the entertainment, and.' t i)|_ alone well worthy ofa visit to tbe Theatre^ ■•' Tbe serial bell " was also introduced^ 1 in which he made a glass bell do all that on Monday evening his " Golden-Drum"-did. The happy style of conversation which the Professor adopts, asd tbe manner in which be makes the audience help him in his feats, render him as popular in the same degree as the cleverness of his tricks astonish and delight. Nor is this popularity undeserved, for the tricks are performed with consummate skill, and those who delight in being piuzled can derive no little amusement from the exhibition. In bis advertisement yesterday the Professor announced that he would name the winner of the Hawke's Bay Cup, and to the astonishment of the audience he produced on a ladies handkerchief by magic the words " Tbe fastest." This may be a good tip or not, but we would remind the Professor that the "race ifonol always to the swift." Daring the whole performance Professor Haselmayer waa loudly applauded for his wonderful feats, and the audience sat in wonder and looked with reverence at a man of such extraordinary capabilities.

An entire change of programme will be substituted to-night, and as to-day is a public holiday there could be no fitting way devised of finishing the days enjoyment than by attending the ; TJieata*? Royal this evening, and witnessing Professor Haselmayer's Wonderful feats.
