January 3. Five per cent New Zealand 10-40 loan is quoted at 104; five per cent 1889 loan, four and a half per cent New Zealand 1879-1904 loan, 98J. The Great Powers still continue to urge Turkey and Greece to agree to European arbitration on the . frontier question, but a favorable result is not expected to be arrived at.
January 4. Owing to rumorsofanintended Fenian raid on the armouries of the volunteer cos-ps in England, fhe authorities at the War Office have ordered precautions to be taken at the head-quarters of the various corps, with a view to prevent the success of any attack on the armouries. A rumour has found general currency here to-day that a torpedo has been found to have been placed under the bow of Her Majesty's ship Lord Warden, which is lyins; in the Firth of Forth, on the east coast of Scotland, and it is alleged that che act is attributed to the Fenians. No official confirmation of the rumour has been obtained. .
