BOARD OF EDUCATION.
A meeting of the Hoard of Education was held at 3 p.m. yesterday, in the office of the Board, Wvmihani sticot. Piesent : Colonel Haultam (n\ the chart) and Messrs. D. M. l.uckie, J. Ball, H. H I.usk, F. L Prime, .uul .T. May. Tlie minutes of last meeting were na 1 and confirmed, and the following businis-> was tiansaeted: — Plnov Flat. — £6 were granted to ren w 1j1(>c s of scIk o -house. SiitLi.RU'K — The Boai d declined to alter their previous decision respecting the salary of sewing mistress Om iu m \ — The Roaid agreed to sell lot 10 of section 47, and lot 3 of section 48, bj .tuehon Notice to be gnen accoidingly. !*( kkm'ua — A co-ninurrcation n\is re- •- i\ed u -■pectint* the dispute as to the site ot t'ne The committee were informed that one of their number was not a resident of the district when elected, but that in any c\ii>e the Boaid eonsidei it desnable that the eommitru* should lesign, and give the resi dents an oppoitunity of expressing their opinion by the election of commissioners to settle the question of the site. The consideiation of a complaint of the teacher's non-attendance was deferred till the new cominussioneib aie appointed. Kaitkati — The consideration of the proposals for schools for this district was postponed till the Inspector's return. Nortiikkv Waircu — The committee were authorised to proofed with the school house and teacher's lcsidencc at a cost of £33, as proposed by them. .Mauri;. — The uso of school-houso was granted for a music class. £10 was granted in addition to the onginal grant of the building W'ErLSFORn. — Further information was required concerning the proposed new building, and what the district would contribute towards the cost Promise was given to the teacher to hold the school in her private hoiw in the meantime if the committee consented. Pi'KrcivOiiE Wi-sr. — £19 10s. additional granted tow aids the cost of the school, but the committee were informed that the Board would not incur any further expense in the district H vmiltov East — A letter from the committee relating to school affairs was laid before the B iard. Mouvt Euen — The consideration of the creation of a new district, and an application for a building t/rant, was deferred till the return of Mr O Sullivan, the Inspector. LowEh K\iiu T — The creation of a new district was sanctioned. Uhvtrvl VVaipu. — The consideration of a list of applicants for assistant teachership3 was deferred. -A lettei from Mr. McLean was referred to the committee. Miiovl Bvy —The opening of two fulltime schools was sanctioned as soon as the necessary airangcmcnts \\ ic made. Kiwakvwy. — V letter fiom Mr. Lorrigan wis lerened to the enmmittee ITicn Si iioor. mi: (Jiris — A letter was received lioin \Iisj Stodli.ut, making proposals for the establishment of a high or supei lor school tor yiils, which should also be a training school for teachers — Consideration of the matter was deferred. Titakau —The grant of £20 4s. Sd., to pay the balance of a contract was made, the Secretary at the same tune bemj, instructed to inform the committee that no other grant would be made for any purpose connected with the school till the committee had contributed to the cost of the budding. Pukerimu.— £30 additional was granted to pay the balance of the contract for Pukenrau school, the site to be transferred before the building is begun. Auckland East. — A letter wu received from the secretary of the »chool committee, asking for an explanation respecting nonreply to the committee's letter of the 26th July, and other matters —The Secretary of the Board w.m requested t > return the letter to the committee, informing it that all letters addressed to the Board by the committee should be signed by the chairman — Another letter from the same sour 'e, asking for a grant of £25 7s. 9d. for additional out-build-ing-j, &u ; ,il'j» for piymentof rent to 30th September for schools, £27 7s., was likewise read — The consideration of the applications was deferred for further information AiTLK'\no\.— A letter was read from Miss Maxwell, asking aid in teaching the children m her district — The matter was deferred until the Inspector had submitted his report. Oi.iiosn, — A communication wai received asking the Hoard to advcitise for a teacher. —Deterred until after the Inspectors leturn fiom the district. L'akiiu —An application was made for a giant for budding purposes. — The Secretary was desned to asceitam from the committee what kind of building they purposed erect ing, its cost, uid wh it amount the district was prcp.ned to contribute. He was also luquested to send the committee plans for its guidance. Driving UiirrK — A letter was received regarding the Tokatea school building. The Secretary uasordeud to inform the Tokatea petitioners accordingly, and also to ascertain it a srte could be obtained from the Pi o\ hicmI Government. Kussi'LL. — The appointment of a sewing mistress was author lsed. Ha\(iiriim -A lettei was read relating' to tlu pioposed site for a school, and asking the Board to amend the bound iries of the diatuot The Secictaiy was instructed to ask for particulars as to the additional families to bo included in the amended boundaries, and the number of additional school children ; also, to recommend the Commissioners to call a meeting of the householders, for the purpose of selecting the most suitable bite.
