The Hon. Mr. Nurse asked : 1. How many tunes the Californian mail btc.uncrd had been unable to enter the haibour at Otago, and for what reasons ? 2. How nuny of those steamers had touched on the bar in going in or coming out ? 3 What damage, if any, had been sustained by them m crossing the bar? The lion. Dr. Pollen stated that on one occasion the s s 'Colima' being out of trim, with a neap tide and heavy sea running, tho pilot would not take her over the bar. Tn answer to the second question ho said no steamer had touched going in or out of Port Chalmcis It had been said the s.s. 'City of San Francisco ' did, but that statement had been officially contiadictcd. The 'Australia ' had cci tainly grounded, but It was tlitee quaitcrs of a mile inside the bar. As to the 1 i<»fc fjuostion, 110 damaac liad been done.
LAND TRANSFER BILL. The Land Tiansfer Act Amendment Bill was l ead a second tune.
LOCAL ELECTIONS BILL. In committee on the Local Elections Bill, the Council have got as far as the 57th clause, and, after some discussion, a new clause proposed by tho lion Colonel Whn'moiik was carried with a pioviso added that no one person shall use the proxy of more than two owners The other business was unimportant.
