THE COLLISION BETWEEN THE S.S. ROWENA AND THE CUTTER VINCENT.
Upon the application of Mr. Thomas Hill, tho Collector of Customs, his Worship the Reitfent Magistrate and Captain Clayton, Nautical Assessor, gat at tho Police Court yeiterday to make a formal inquiry into the colliiion between the Rowena, and the Vincent. Mr. J. B. Rusiell, however, pointed out to his Wor»hip that he thought tho Act provided that tho application should come from the chief officer of Ciutomi nearest to the place where the accident occurred, and which in this instanco wa» Tauranga. — Mr. Earstow coincided with Mr. Ruuell, and tho matter was left in atata quo, pending communication with tho Collector of Cuatom* at Tauranga.
Coastwise Inwards.— Anne Milbank, p.s., ftom Hot Springs and Mahurangi ; Firefly, schooner, from the Wade, with produce; Fannio, •utter, from Wangapoua, with timber; Morcwry, •utter, from Tairua, with timber. The schooner Edith, Captain Trayto, loft for the Society Inlands yesterday. Tho s.s. Rowena took her doparfcure, yesterday, for Tauranga, with passengers and cargo. The schooner Minnie Hare and cutter Magic, •ailed, in ballast, for Russell, yesterday. The schoonera Albatross and Kenil worth are now on their way to Napier with cargoes of timber, from Wangapoua. The brig Syren, Captain Bowes, arrived yes terday evening, from Sydney, with a cargo of bonedust, &c. She left Sydney on tho 12th instant, and had head winds and variables on the passage. She anchored last night off Orakei Bay, and will come up harbour this morning. The schooners Golden Isle and Christina cleared at the Customs, yesterday, for Russell, in ballast. The schooner Fairy cloared at the Customs, for Omaha, yesterday, in ballast. Th« barauo Caberfeidh will sail for Newcastle) to-day, in ballast. Th« new schooner Minnehaha went for a trial trip, yesterday. Her sailing capabilities wero nil that could be desired. The baique Stag has hauled alongside tho wharf, and oommenoed discharging her cargo of ml from Newcastle.
