To the Editor : Sii, —In the Wi I icia Ni:ws of January 2!)th, a coi respondent accuses mo ot humg used unpuliaiuentarv language in addicting Mr. H. Lloyd. Nothing loulil hive been futlici t'oiu my thoughts, as I proposed Mr. Lloyd a-> than man at the pieei'ding meeting. 1 consider it would be unkmd of anyone to m any way annoy that gentleman, as he u known by every pet son in this distuot to ba a very harmless nun The real facts in the case are these. 1 objected to Major Stonoy (whowaschanman) seconding a proposition tliat his son, Mr. IX .Stonoy, should pay one third less rates for his faun than the other residents in this distuet I suggested that such an Act would rai->e a now semdal in the Wade, which has |ii-,t attuned an unenviable notoriety in being justly censured by the Magisterial lieuch in Auckland for having its accounts loosely kept. It is well known that I advocate justice to all, and my earnest de-.ni 1 is to bee public money in the Wade faithfully accounted for.
