The A.S.P. Company's s.s. Star of the South, Captain E'arquhar, arrived in harbour from Levuka yestero ay morning at 5 o'clock, bringing a cargo of island produce and several passengers. She left Auckland foa Levuka on December 5th at 4 p.m., and had light airs and calms during the whole of the passage, arriving at Levuka at 11 p.m. on December 12 th. In consequence of the thick weather could not pick up the lights, flo remained outside till daylight, landed stock s<mio day. Was detained two days discharging cargo in consequence of insufficiency of hands in the Customs departments to take eutnea, &c. Left Levuka on December lSih at 5 p.m., and experienced strong headwinds till Friday last, sighted the Poor Knight* at 2 o'clock next morning, and had toputrito Tutukaka tor iirewoud, having iuusiioitofco.il. The Star of the South is to be laid up tor repaiis, &c. which it is expect« d will occupy about 14 days. She will then procted to Napier, and on her return again will leave for Levuka. The iron buque Otago, from Duncdin, with a c>i';t> o. "ugar, &c. to Mr. G. W. Bini'ey, Arnvt-d in harbour on Saturday afternoo > last, after a tedious passage of 21 days. Of this trip, Captain Biokuew teports having sailed ou thu 5th instant, and to having had a continuation of light airs and calms, with tiuc weather, throughout the passage. The East Cape was louuded on the 17ih instant. The barque will bo berthed at tbe wharf to-day, to discharge her cars;o. MessVa. Ciuieksbaulc and Co , agents of the Heio, have received a telegram from Blight Brothers and Co , stating that tlia Hero was to leave Melbourne on tho 24th December for Auckland via Sydney. She may therefore be expected to arrive hero on the 4th January. The mail steamer (either the City of Melbourne or the Cyphrenes) en loute from Sjdney to San Francisco, is due here this morning. The schooner Clyde is announced to sail for WaDgarei to-day. The 8.s. Hero from Melbourne and Sydney ia due here on Januaiy 5. A large number of our small coasting fleet arrived in harbour during the List clay or two The space between the Queen-st-eet wharf and the break-water being closely packed ■with our mosquito fleet. The schooner Queen frnin Napier with a small cargo arrived in harbour on Friday l»st, after a somewhat lengthy passage, owing to tbe light winds pievaihnt;. Tha ketch Prince Itupert from Wangaroa with a cargo of timber arrived iu harbour early on Saturday morning last. Owing to the holidays, the s.s. Southern Cross, Captain Sellars, did not leave for Tauranga on Saturday last. A new schooner arrived yesterday morning from Omaha, h-ivinsf been built bv McKenzie and Sharp, for Captains D. H. and K. Mctfenzie. jShe is a wholesome looking vessel, and one particularly adapted for our coastal trade. The s.s. Rowena from the Bay of Islands »nd other Northern ports arrived in harbour early yesterday morning, bringing a full cargo of gum, &c, and a large number of passengers.
