Tub Zanov. — Hka\ y WFVrnER. — The anxiously- looked-f or barquo Zanga arrived in haibour yesterday afternoon from Liverpool, after a most tedious ami heavy weather passage of HO da^ s. Her voyage has been maiLed by a senes of lieica gales aud head winds from the tnno of her leaving port, thus accounting for the long passago made. The barque is aldo deeply laden, and with principally rod and pig iron, coko, and other dead - weight cargo. She lost her mam - topsail aud maintop - gallant yarda during the passago ; a poition of her bulwarks were also carried away. Taking the voyage altogether, it has been a most trying one for Captain Farran and his officers. Notwithstanding the heavy weather encountered, tho Zanga has arrived in harbour in a most cleanly condition. To Captain Farran we are indebted for the following report of tho passage : — Left Liverpool on January 17, but owing to heavy gales and adverse weather had to put pack to port. Sailed again on the 23rd, and had strong S.W. galos for the first 14 days. Thenco moderate and variable winds. Crossed tho Equator on March '2, in 23*34 \V. Took the south-east trades off the Line. They proved very light. On March 7 was boarded by one of tho olhcera of a Frenoh barque, which was short of water. She was bound from London to Monte Video. Was unable to supply her with any. On the 19th, during a short cross sea, in which the barque was rolling heavily, the maintop^ail and topgallant yar la carried away. This was in latitude 20 47 S., longitude 34 *4 W. Ftoin thence bad strong E.S.E wind. On March 21 the wind increasod to a fierce gale, with Tery high confused seas, dunng which tho barquo laboured heavily, shipping on boaul heavy bodies of water. On April 4 passed Tristan d'Aounha ; and on the 13th rounded the Capo of Good Hope; wind, W.N.W. Next day had fieree squalls, tho vessel being under closereefed topsails. On the loth tho wind increased to a very ationg gale, (luting which tho vestel suilered gieatly. Ran down the eastings between tho parallols of 38 and 39 S., during which a series of gales from S., veering to W. and N.W., had to be contended against. On May 23 (the 120th day out) passed through Bass'a htiaits. Thenoe to the Tluee Kings modorate S,W. winds. Hounded the ;North Cape on Juno 4. Down tho roast had strong S. 10 and S. gaits, with high aom. Oh June 1, it was discovered that one of theHtarbnard tanks, oonttuiiing 1,000 gallons of wat< r, h,ul burst, and alino»t all the watci hud been lost. In comcquenoe, the whole of the cruw had to be placed on short allowanco from that time. The barquo (which comes con Bigned to Messrs. Owen and Graham) will be brought alongside the wharf oa Monday next. The number of strain vessels for which certificates have been given during the year 1871-2 i» 62, with a total tonnago of 4,0(57

ton*. Oi thcso .'?0 are paddlo stoauiors, '2."> screw-piopelleil, 3 twin-screw, and 2 stcruwhoel paddle. There aro 30 which have sea<?oins; certificates, tho remainder foi liver ;ni(l extended river navigation. Tho total hoisc power employed is 2,229.
