VOLUNTEER DINNER.

A COMiM.iMtNJAHY dinner, given by the members of the Auckland Troop of Cavahy Volunteers to tho ofheer at present commanding the company, Lieutenant Isaacs, took place last night at the Masonic Hotel, Pnncea-street. About thirty members of the corps, besides the guests, were present. The chair was filled by Dr. Wright, surgeon of tho company. On his right was Lieutenant Isaacs, and on hia left was Major Tisdall. Sergeant Walters was vioe-chau-man. After ample justice had been dono to the viands, which wtro of a racherchG and substantial character, tho usual loyal toasts wero drunk, including those of the Queen, the Royal Family, tho Acting-Governor Sir George Arney, and tho Minntry, the Superiutendent.and tho Army, Navy, and Volunteers. Major Tisdall, m responding to tho latter to.ist, leforred to the importance of tho cavalry branch of the service, ami to the fact that in the present disturbed state of things in tho Waikato a cavalry troop had boen formed under Major Jackson (who had on formei occasions distinguished himself as a aoldier) and Captain Kunciman. — The Chairman then in flattering terms proposed the health of tho guest of tho evening. — Lieutenant Isaacs responded in a very li^at speech, expressing hit appreciation of the honour conforred upon him by being made a guest, and a hope that he would continue to merit the good wishes of tho members of the company. — Lieutenant Philips, of No 4 Company KiUo Brigade, next propound the health of Major Gordon, the ollicer in command of the district, and in doing ho spoko in complimentary terms of Major (ioidun, and •specially witk ragard to the manner in which ho had conducted the ntle shooting at Neleon.
