R. ; D. M. Luckie, Esq , M.H.U ; W. K.itene, M.H.R.; Bishop Cowie, Colonel Russell, Colonel Haultain, Colonel Balncavis, Colonel Nation, Jud«o Beckhani, F. Whitaker, Esq ; D. L Murdoch, Esq; T. Maoir.iilaue, K<-q. ; Dr. Goldabro', Captain Heale, and his Worship tho Mayor. Colonel Lyon, Major G »r<lon, Major Tisdall, and a large number of Volunteer officers were present in umfoim. At about ten iniuutoa p.-nt five o'clock Sir Georjje, dressed in Conit suit, followed by Judge Johnston, in his robes and wijy, the Hon Julius Vogol, the Hon. D. McLean, and Captain Machell, A.I) C , issued fioin(;ovornnicntllou3u and approached the table placed on the balcony, when (*aptain Machell read the Royal Commission, which was dated at Bilmoral on the 7th Maich 1S(>9, and was in the usual terms calling upon Sir George Alfred Arncy to adinunstt-r the government of the colony uutil tho further pleasure of tho Sovereign, in case of the absence, death, or incapacity of Sir Guorgo Ferguson Bowen Jud^e Johnston then administered the Oath of Alloyirtnoo and afterwards the Oath of Oihoc 1 , which having been subsei ibed, his Excellency was congiatnlated byJu.lge Johnston and those aiound him, and thieu cheers wcie called for by his Worship t»io Mayor, and heartily responded to. a salute was fued at Fort Bntomait by a dotachmentof tho Artillery Company just as tho oaths were administered. His iixcell.-ncy re-entered Government House as soon as tlin ceremony was concluded, and the spectators diH)eised.
