The lode very closoly resembles tho outcrop atull of tho Sunbeam lodo, thoro boing two bands — ono light-colourcd, tho otlicr dark brownas waa tho case with tho Sunbeam lode. The cap of tho Windfall to tho northward also coincides with that of tho Sunbeam, whilst tho atukois moro easterly, that of tho Sunbeam bring say GO degrees, and of tho Windfall 70 or 80 dogreos. Tins strike ia along tho dividing r.wigo that separates l'lnla-i's (iully from Waterfall and Boundary (Jieeka and from Wisemau'H (iully, and 80 nearly agrees with tho atriko of Dixon's No. 1 lode, which, going as it does into tho samo range, encourages the idoa of aomo connection botwsen tho two. That tho Sunbeam lodo and tho Windfall lodo are connected is L think boyond question ; very poaaibly the latter is a branch of tho formor, or, for that matter, tho two may ( ,bo identical, tho Sunbeam lodo never yot having been traced in its integrity beyond tho limits of tho Sunbeam Claim. Tho City of Dunedin lodo haa ever been regarded as tho continuation of it, notwithstanding that tho lodo was never traced through tho wide stnp of giound separating the two mines. It waa assumed that theie was no other way for it to go, simply becauso tho aoaich for it ui other direotioiiH, ono of them whero tho Windfall lodo is, happened to bo fruitless. But the discovery of the latter, and tlio fact of tho points of rosomblanco between it and the Sunbeam boing infinitely clearer than tho rcsu/iiblauco between tho City of Diuiodm and tho Sunbeam, lends another pha«o to tho question ; ao that, after all, those of tho disputauta who years ago used to wrangle about tho probable course of tlio Sunbeam lode, and who maintained that it pasHed through tho Sunburst and fSilvor Ciown Claims, and up this very rango whero tho windfall took place, may yot bo proved to i. ..., i^J. iU« Uiktif blio argument. A large ovcavation that will bo speedily enlarged haa boon opened in tho outcrop, and tho stuff coining coming out is being sent to tho Floia Alaodonald machine, whero live stampers staited on it this morning. An nistanco of how closely prospcctois may approximate a run of gold without finding it is adduced in this claim, whoro an old tunnol yot open, and evidently driven by tho early cxplorora of tho locality, runa paiallol with, and cloao to, tho lodo for a eonauloiablo distance into tho spui. If tho tunnel had been opened three or four foot fui tin l noi th it would haro stiuck tho lode. Tho abovo are tho only claims winch havo stiuck gold so far, and around then tho country is taken up iu all directions, chiefly in y<)-acro blocks, tho ai/e of winch is not conducivo to close and thorough pioapccting.
