MADAME WINTER'S CONCERT.
Madame Winter — a lady who is well known in the musical world of Auckland — gave a concert at the Choral Hall last night, in which she was assisted by some of her pupils, Mr. Joseph Browne (who acted as conductor), and a number of lady and gentleman amateurs. The attendance was not so large as the merits of the entertainment should have secured ; but this waB, no doubt, owing to the exertions of the previous day's pleasuring. The programme comprised many choice selections, and was very successfully carried out. The first part consisted of miscellaneous pieces, and thejeecond and third parts of selections from the favourite opera of " Maritana." The pianoforte performances and the singing of Madame Winter's pupils reflected great credit upon that lady aa a teacher of music, and afforded great pleasure to the audience. The operatic selections were all well and correctly rendered, and the solos " It was a bright," £and " 'Tis the harp in the air," by Miss Winter, were very effcative, as was also the solo, " Scenes that are brightest," by a pupil. The splendid solo, " Hear me, gentle Maritana," by a gentleman amateur,} was remarkably well sung and loudly applauded. About 16 ladies and 11 gentlemen took part in the choruses, and rendered them in a very creditable manner. The finale " Viva Maritana" by all the performers was productive of considerable applause.
