PORT ALBERT: CONDEMNATION OF MR. SHEEHAN.
The usual quarterly meeting of the Port Albert Alliance Auxiliary was held on Tuesday evening last at Mr. T. Gubb's. Present -fMr. J. Shepherd, M.P.C.', Vice-President, in the chair ; -Messrs. F. Judspn, 6. Plummer, *B. M. Gubb,' J. Becroft, P. Edger, T. Gubb; and Gr. T. Hartnell, Secretary. The report of the Permissive Bill canvass in this and adjacent districts was given in. Preliminary arrangements were made for instituting a Band of B[ope Society for the young; of the settlement. —A letter received from Mr. John SJheehan, M.H.Tt. for Rodney, in response to the following note forwarded to him-by r the Secretary, was read to the meeting : — "Port Albert, 9, 1872. Dear Sir,— A.large number of the electors resident in this neighbourhood signed a' requisition to -you just prior to your election for Ro.dney, relying on ypir promise to vote for the Permissive Bill. "We now learn you are one of • the opponents of that measure. May we, trust to your courtesy to send a word of explanation ?— 1 'din, yours, &c, G-. T. Hartnell, Secretary f^ort Albert Auxiliary U.K. A. 'J. Sheehan, Esq., $T.H,R." Mr. Sheehan promisedjiq send <l the fullest explanation by next mail," biat failed to do so., The.speech he. made in the House during the Permissive Bill debate was therefore read to the committee. After seme discussion thereon it was moved, seconded, and unanimously resolved, "That :..ti c committee consider Mr. ,T.
