I To the Editor: Sir, — Mr. Von cler Hcyde having stated at the late meeting of the Harbour Board that the late Henry Thompson, -who died of small-pox on the 23rd ult., " had never been in the 'Nebraska either as a passenger or one of the crow," I think it incumbent on me to lay before the public the following history, taken by ino at Mr. Thompson's bedside from his own lips, and forwarded to his Honor the Superintendent : — " Went on board the ' Nebraska' as forecabin steward at Auckland, whore I had been staying four or five weeks at tbe Clauricarde Hotel, on May 22nd ultimo, in perfect health. Touched at Napier ; did not land. Beached Wellington on the 2Gsb, did not land there ; thence to Lyttelton ; and lastly I to Port Chalmers on the 28th, where we lay for 11 days. I did not land there, and was in good health and spirits. Lefb Port Chalmers on June 7th, and arrived at Wellington on Sunday, 9fch iustint. I did not land there, and now first began to feel ;, unwell, chilly and feverish by turns ; left Wellington same night, and reached Auckland on Thursday, 13th instaut. I was in bed on arrival. Lauded at 7 p.m. same night, and lodged at c Thames Boarding-house,' on ! wharf. I saw spots on my arm before I loft the ship, and consulted the ship's surgeon, who gave me three pills. When on board the * Nebraska ' I heard that one of .the crew bad taken small-pox or chicken-pox, and was laid up and attended by the doctor in the forecastle. I heard also of another case which occurred between Honolulu and Auckland. Both these men are now on board 6 Qe 'Nebraska.'
