WELLINGTON. Friday. The Star Boating Club has resolved to send to England for a first-class outrigger for the next intercolonial boat race. The barque 'Thames, ' from London to Wellington, was sighted off Akaroa. In the Appeal Caurt, the caae of Belcher v. Southern Insurance Company was continued. Fourteen members of the Armed Con■tabular^ Force, stationed here,have received orders to proceed to Duuedin to perform police duty during the strike of the policemen in that city. Arrived: 'Gothenburg.' The schooner 'Edward,' laden with lumber for Lyttelton, from Kaikoura, has been towed into jport by the schooner • Aspasia.' The ' Edward' is dismasted, and had been towed fliuoo Tuesday last.
'JHRISTCHURCH. Friday. The grain market is [.quiofc. Holders of ■wheat are careless to sell at leas than ss. per bushel, and there are no buyers at that figure. Flour is firm at £13 per ton ; barley, wanted at 4s. 9d. to ss. per bushel ; oats, unaltered. Butter Js in steady request at Bd. to S^d. per lb. ; cheese, 4d. to4Jd.j hame and bacon, 7d. to 74a. The Provincial Counoil last night, after a five hours' debato, on the motion of Mr. J. E, Browne for selling land on deferred payments, reaolved to try tho experiment to the extent of 20,000 acres.
DUNEBIN. Friday. Flour is quoted at £13 to £13 10a. per ton ; milling wheat, sa. 3d. per bushel ; oats dull, ]». 9d. to Is. lid.; barley, wanted at ss. 3d. A large meeting was held last night, when itj was resolved to ask the Government to resume employment of the police pending an appeal to the Council. A deputation waited on the Superintendent, who declined accepting tho conditions proposed. The Council will be prorogued to-morrow.

HOKITrKA. .Friday. There has been a rash to W°°dsfcock, near Hokitika. A prospecting claim was granted yesterday, which is supposed to have the lost Brighton lead. Several hundred men were on the ground to-day. Oats, 3a. per bushel. Victorian flour, £11 10s. ; Adelaide flour, £19 10s. ; provincial, £15. Hams and bacon, B^d. to 9d. per lb.
