TE AWAMUTU: THE QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY.
The anniversary of the birthday of our most gracious Majesty passed off with unusual gaiety and splendour at Te Awamutu on Friday last. The first assembly 4 of ttie Cavalry Volunteers took place early in the forenoon of that day, when a number of evolutions were gone through, after 'which the commanding officer, Major Jackson, M.H.R., called on th 6 corps'' lot three jcheers ihhonourof the- day, which jtds. needless to add were given with, right goad' wiiLi By the second assembly of the corps 'a goodly concourse of the settlers, with" their families, had collected on the ground eager to fitness the martial display. The' period from? about, 12 noon to 5 p.m. was deiroted to some.excellent horae-raoingj.whiph^pnsisted of trotting matches, steeplechaaing, and admirable and well-contested flat .racing.- Mr. R. Davidson, th?
