TEMPERANCE PREFERRED TO TEETOTALISM.
Sib, —There is from time to time a stir make about the Permissive question by the mouthpieces of tbat class, J. Wood ; but let me say that, in ray opinion, temperance has done far more good. As long as I can remember I admired it, and do skill, and say that that man who is temperate, and drinks not to excess ; who is ever «n his guard, being able to say nay; and when his- system is infirm, that by experience it tells him that a little alcohol wonld do him good, takes that little and no more —that man is to be recommended for setting a good example to his weaker brother ; for man is not required by his God to injure his own body ao that he may benefit his brother. God looks at the motive, but man at the show (pretence). —l am, &c, Temperance, Pukekohe.
