DESPATCH RESPECTING THE SOUTH SEA ISLAND LABOUR TRADE.
The acknowledgment of her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Colonies of the Memorial signed by the Bishop of Auckland, in accordance with a resolution passed at a public meeting held iv Auckland, in November last, was as follows :—": — " Downingstreet, 16th March, 1872. Sir,— T have to acknowledge your despatch, No. 110 of 27th November, enclosing a memorial which was adopted at a pubHo meeting held at Auckland, on the subject of thu murder of Bi3ho|> Pattesou. I request that you will inform the memorialists that a 101 l has been introduced into the Impsrial Pailiament for the purpose of checking the abuses iv the Polynesian labour traffic to which they advert. —I have, &q., (signed) KiMBEaLEY. Governor Sir G-. F. Bowen, G.C.M.G., &o."
