HAMILTON : PRESENTATION OF PRIZES.
AcooitDiN'G to an order received from Colonel Lyou, commanding the district, the Constabulary and Waikato Hifle Volunteers assembled on parade to fire a feu de joie. This is the first time the company has appeared on parade in uniform, and tho turnout does credit to our local tailor. After paying the usual respect to her Majesty, Colonel Lyon expressed himself highly pleased with the uniform, and complimented them on their soldierly appearance, and the steady manner in which the duties devolving on them had been pei formed, and hoped soon to seu them more numerous. Mis. Lyon, who had kin lly volunteered to present the prizes won by the Constabulary and Volunteers in the diatiicb, th'-n came forward. After the presentation the men were marched off to their respective parade grounds, aud dismissed, after which the Voluateeis mot tn elect a lieutenant. J. rlighley, Esq., and Ensign Macdonald were proposed, seconded, and billotted for, when the chairman, Cap tain Cumininu, declared J. Highle}', Kaq , elerted. Ensign Macdonald tendered his resignation. An election to fill the vacancy will shoitly take place. — Waikato Times.
