POLICE COURT.—Wednesday. [Before his Worship the Mayor and Thomas Ritchie, Esq., J.P.]

Inebhiatbs. — There were two charges disposed of. Vagrancy.— Luke Macdonald, a- youth uf about 12 years of age, was charged as u vagrant.— The Bench ordered a remand in order to ascertain whether anything could be done which would tend to the lad's salvation from ruin. A Sailor Stowaway. — J. J. H. Stafford was charged with having obtained a passage from Ho bar t Town to this pluce in the brig ' Jane ' by stowing himself away. 'I he captain of the 'Jane' here came forward, and said that he had no desire to prosecute the prisoner. He was discharged. Assault.— Charles O'Mara was charged with committing an assault on Joseph MacPherson on the previous day. Mr Meyers appeared for the defendant, «vho pleaded not guilty. — Subsequent charges were entered against the defendant for presenting ft pistol at a constable. Mr. Broham asked for a iemand till tae following day. A remand was allowed, defendant to be released upon 6nding two sureties of £50 each. Fxtriovs Riding.— William and Thomas Hamilton were charged with having committed this offence in Queen-street on the 15th inst., by which one Mr. Broadfoot was knocked down and hurt. Mr.' Russell appeared for defendants, who were discharged. Merchant Shipping Act.— Peter Fleming was charged under the Merchant Shipping Act with failing to pay the sum of £4o 10s., wages alleged to be due to George Stewart, chief mate of the schooner 'Martha Fllen.' The defendant did not appear. Mr. Eussell appeared for the plaintiff.—Judgment was given for the plaintiff, I and a warrant ordered to issue, but to be held over for the present, the veasel to bo detuned until the matter had been settled. The Court then rose.
