WAIUKU : HARVEST HOME.

Yesterday, our enterprising settler, E, Constable, Esq., entertained his men and their wives and a number of his neighbours. The dinner was given in honour of ■'his harvest home. He haa just finished getting in his wheat and oats in very fine order, and the work: of threshing haa commenced. , The party did not break up until the wee hours had arrived, having amused themselves by singing, dancing and other, amusements. During the evening Mr, Hamlin proposed the health of Mr. Constable, and took the occasion of paying him a high compliment for his energy and perseverance and hia general liberality in furthering the interests of the district, aud concluded by hoping that his crops may yield him a good return.— Mr. Constable in replying stated that it gave him very great pleasure in seeing them alt there. Although this was the first harvest hjme in Waiuku, he trusted it would not be the last. With reference to his crop of wheat, he could state that the return would . be better than he had expected. A portion of the ground he had had in wheat .had be*n cropped some five different times without manure being used. He thought that was as good as, if not better than, the far-famed wheat countries could do. He considered it an everlasting disgrace to them to think that they had to briug wheat 1,600 miles to feed themselves on. Ib was his intention if spared to have another such quantity sown, and he trusted all his friends would go on planting. Let them not be discouraged because they had a bad season this year. He concluded by thanking them for the way they had received the toast.— [Correspondent, J
