THE MAYOR'S BANQUET.

His Worship the Mayor of Auckland, P.* A". Philips, Estj., gave a banquet on September 27 at Ht. Mungo's Cafe, to the members and officers of the Borough Council and some of the most prominent men of Auckland. His Worship the Mayor pecupied the chair, being supported on his right by the Deputy-Super-infcendeat, Joseph May, Esq., W. J. Hurst, Esq., and H. H. Lusk, Eaq (Provincial Executive) ; and on the lefb by his Honor Thomas Beekham, Esq. (District Judge), and Colonel H. C. Balneavis (Sheriff). The vicechairwas occupied by W.C.Daldy, Esq. (Chairman of the Harbour Board). Amongst the, ( guests present were l<\ L. Bucbplz, Esq.' (German Consul), ' D B. Cruickshank, Esq. (Chilian Consul), and Captain DargdVille (American Consular-Agent). The whole of the members of the Municipal Council and officers were present, with the exception' of Mr. Maoready, who was absent through indisppsjtion. Invitations had also been fdrwarded to the- following gentlemen, who were, however, from various, causes unable to be present :-7-Sir. G. Araey, Sir GK Grey, Dr. Poll«n, 0. Von der Beyde, Esq., W, F.
