' The' 'amount of goods received daring September was larger than" for several mwitbs*pMt,.and stocks generally are fairly , supplied j bo much do -that ; *t would, be difficult to mention any artiole in respect o£> which a; real aoaroity has bien experienced. J The cargo of the ' Countess of Kiutore^ from London, will soon come' into 1 consumption, as that veiwel has commenced' diachargingjiand there have in addition been large imports from the Australian colonies. The, barque 'East Lothian' sailed for Wow York on September 8. She took 24358 case* - and 193 bags kauri gum, also 176 Dales flax, 3' bales tow :', of a total value of 9,300*. The •hip J Excelsior' sailed for London" on Sep. ttraber 30, with a cargo valued at 83,4062. 18s Qd, . Of this, 54,900/. is represented by f>ld, 5.000J. in silver, 17,7452. in kauri gma. ho' quantity; of flax shipped was very small. Tlw particulars of her cargo will be found in our* shipping columns. The ship 'Beth Sh»A* ~ia i now leading rapidly for JjQndon, and her oargowill inolude shipments of gum, cotton, and wool. There are already about 2,000 cases of gum on board, and probably aboTiifr"l,006 more will be shipped. The torque 'Alice* is now expected, and will load for New York direct. She will pro- j bfibly be ready to sail in about twouaonths from date.' By the ' Nebraska,' on her, last trip from San Francisco, several American wool-buyers arrived, and have distributed themselves over- the colonies. The favourable Intelligence received from Eur'operesi peofcing the -wool industry has given much satisfaction both in New Zealand and Australia. The long period of stagnation had seriously injured the Bhtep-owners, and had caused a great falling off in the supply. The Southern provinces of the colony feel any depression in the price of wool more severely than is done in Auckland, where sheep runs are unknown. The revenue of tha colony has, however, been seriously affected daring' the past year by the dulness of the wool trade, and its revival will be felt beneficially throughout the colony. A summary of the financial statement of the Hon. Julius Vogel, Colonial Treasurer, is published in another column, and shows jthe present position of the colony, and the proposals of the Government bearing on the future. The month of September closed a quarterly term of the financial year, and we annex a
