CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
The monthly ineetiug of the Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday at three o'clock, iv. the office of the Chamber. There were present— Mr. G. Yon der Hoyde (iv the chair), Meaars. Shera, T. Macfarlane, Heather, P. A. Philips, W. C. Daldy, and J. M. Clark. CoRnESFONDBNCE. — A letter was read from the Superintendent, dated Wellington, 12th September, 1871, in reply to the request made for papers for the Chamber. It stated that the Financial Statement had just been read, and recited the alterations in the Tariff. — The Secretary stated that the Chamber had received some Parliamentary papers from Mr, Gillies, but before they had received them they Lad received a set from the Government printer. — The Chairman suggested that a circular should be prepared, and filled up with the names of the various Government papers as they were received by the steamer, informing members that they were open at the Chamber for perusal. — Mr. Philips moved, Mr. Heather seconded, and it was agreed to, that a circular such as suggested should be prepared and sent to each member by the secretary on the arrival of the mail steamer from the South. The Kepresentative in London. — The Chairman stated that no answer had yet been received to the letters sent to the Chambers of Commerce in the South naming Dr. Featherston as their representative in London to watch the interests of the colony. —Captain Daldy mored, "That a copy of the correspondence from Melbourne and the resolution passed by this Chamber be sent to Dr. Featherston, with an intimation that we have not received any replies from the Southern Chambers, and with a. request that he will be kind enough to act on the provisional committee "— Mr. Shera seconded the motion, which was unanimously agreed to.— Captain Daldy then moved, " That the action taken by this Chamber be duly notified to the Southern Chambers," which was seconded by Mr. Shera, and agreed to. Bankruptcy Act.— Some desultory conversation ensued on the new Bankruptcy Bill before the House of Representatives, after which the report of the committee appointed to consider the bill was read. The committee approved of the bill as } brought before Parliament. —Mr. T. Macffarlane moved, Mr. Shera seconded, and it was carried, " That the report of the committee upon the Insolvent Bill he adopted by the Chamber." Telegraph Extension.— The Chairman asked if the members of the Chamber did not think it would be desirable to convey to some of their representatives the necessity of haying Auckland put into telegraphic communication with every other part of the colony. — Some discussion ensued, after which it was agreed, on the motion of Captain Daldy, seconded by Mr. Clark, "That the committee of the Chamber draw up a memo* rial to tbe Qeneraf Assembly showing the great loss and inconvenience to the trade of Auckland by the want of telegraphic communication with the South, especially during the sittings of the General- Assembly." — It was then .resolved that the' memorial be forwarded to the Hon. Mr. VogeJ, member for City Eaat, for preaentation to the Assembly. I , The Chamber then adjourned.
