VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

To - day the Volunteers will assemble to form a guard of honour for his Excellency the Governor, when he leaves this city for the South. They assemble at half • past ten o'clock at the Barracks. The annual meeting of the members of No. 6 Company Auckland Rifle Volunteers was held last night at the Orderly Boom, Princes-street, Captain Batger in the chair. The following promotion! vrere made :— Sergeant Bullock, to bo colour-sergeant, and Lance-Sergeants Ellis and Chalmers to be full sergeants. Several matters in connection with the internal management of the company were ducuaatd, and the accounts passed. The memben of No. 2 Company Auckland Naval Volunteers assembled at Fort Britomart last night, and fired a few rounds of blank cartridge, in preparation for the salut* to be fired on the occasion of his Excellency the Governor's departure to-day. Mr. Yon der Heyde has signified his acceptance of the captaincy of No. 2 Company A.X.V. His election by the members of that company was notified a few days ago.

A certain minister was not over-fastidious about his wardrobe. One day, meeting his brother, who was also a divint, he was censured by him for being ao careless about his dress, and espeoially reprimanded for wearing striped trouaers, it being altogether unclerical.
