POLOCE COURT.— Friday. [Before his Worship the Mayor and G. P. Pierce, Esq., J.P.s.]

Municipal Police Act.— John Scarrott was charged with a breach of the above Act by allowing his horse to stray at large ia Queen- street on July 25. Evidence was however given that immediately the horse broke out of his stable every means was used to secure him again. The Bench therefore dismissed the case.

Vagrant.— William Moore was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour, for a breach of the Vagrant Act.

Larceny. — Susan Duneen was charged by Adam Orr with stealing a gold ring, valued at £4 10s., his property.— Adam Orr deposed : lam the landlord of the Alexandra Hotel. I know the prisoner. Oa the Ist June prisoner came to my place for some washing. On the 3rd I missed the ring. I had placed it in one of the drawers of the till in the bar. I afterwards learnt that the ring had been stolen. — Benjamin Levy deposed to the prisoner pawning the ring, and to it afterwards being redeemed by a lad named Edward Rule.— Edward Rule deposed ttyat he received the rin/f from the pawn-office. — Grace Chapman gave evidence as to having received a pawn-ticket for a ring from the prisoner. It was given to her to take charge of. She sent her son to redeem it, and afterwards gave it to Detective Ternahan. — The Bench sentenced the prisoner to two months' imprisonment.
