MAURITIUS : DESTRUCTIVE CYCLONE.
Ok the 4th and sth of January a cyclone Sassed to the northward of the island, ►aring the consequent atmospheric disturbance a heavy rain fell at Mauritius. The quantity of rain that fell in the 48 hours varied from 30in. in the highest part of the island to Bin. in the lowest. Many parts of •he island were inundated by the overflowing of rivers and the torrents from the mountains, but it does not appear that any damage imdpne^
