The Golden Grown. — The fine new p. s. Golden Crosvu made her maiden trip to tho Thames yest-rday. The following was the time occupied on t>>e down and up trip :— She left the Queen-street Wharf at 12.30; ofi the Sandspit waa laid to for 21 minutes to cool th.c bearings of tlie taa.clxin.ery j arrived t ab Graharostown at 443, the actual time occupied in doing the trip being 4 hours 8 minutes. On her return the steamer left Grahams town at 10 minutes past 6, and arrived at the Wharf at 25 minutes past 9, thus doin^ the up trip m 3 houn> 15 mzuufces. The p. s. Samson, from Whangarei, arrived yesterday, bringing a cargo of 4 tons gum, and a quantity of aettlera' produce. The s. a. Sfcormbird sails this morning for Southern ports from the Manukau. The s. s. Wainui was announced to leave Dunediu for this port on the 3rd, en route for the Fijis. Messrs. Cruickshank, Smart, and Co. aie agents here for the vessel. The schooner Fiery Cross was to load grain at Oamaru for this port. The fine clipper ship Countess of Kintore, under the command of Captain Petherbridge, hauls from the wharf and clears at the Customs to-day for London. Besides having on board a large and very valuable cargo, the Countess takes the following passengers :—: — Saloon— Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Thornton and family (9) and nurse ; Mr. R. Walker, Mrs. Walker and family (4) ; Mr, and Mi s. Proade ; Mr. and Miss Hunt ; Mrs. Crfccr. Steerage—Mr, and Mrs. G. Rodgers ; Mr. and Mrs. Wmstone ; Messrs. Bullar, Farrow, Weiib, Viney, Blandon, Horsman, Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Muir and family (3). The s.s. Taranaki, from Southern ports, may be expected in this harbour to-morrow. The s.s. St. Kilda, from West Coast ports, may be looked for in the Manukau to-day. The s.s. Airedale, Captain Kennedy, from Southern ports, arrived in the Manukau yes. terday, with a general cargo and several paasengera. Of the passage Captain Kennedy reports as follows : — Sailed from Port Ch'lmers on December 30; arrived at Lyttelton the next day at 9.15 a.m., and sailed at 8.15 p.m. ; anchored off Kaikoura township Sunday morning at 6.30, and landed a boatload of cargo, bub the heavy surf setting in prevented any more being sent off; proceeded at 9. 10, and reached Wellington that night at 6.20. Discharged, coaled, and started on the 2nd at 0.40 a. in. ; reached Pictousame morning at 5.40, and left at 7.10 a.m. ; arrived at Nelson that afternoon at 3.30, sailed from thence at 4.10 a.m. of 3rd. Anchored off JSTew PJymoafch afc 7.30 p in., and got away again at 9. 35, Variable winda and. fine weather to Taranaki; from tlieiice strong nort'a-east winds and thick rainy weather ; crossed the Manukau bar at 12.40 p.m. We are indebted to Mr. R. B. Pringle, the purser, for the prompt delivery of our files. An official inquiry waa held yesterday at the Custom house before the Collector of Customs (Mr. Hill) and Captain Clayton, Nautical Assessor, into the cause of the running ashore of the schooner Ocean Wave at Mercury Bay a short time back ; but, owing to our reporter being informed that the proceedings were of a private nature, we are unable to give the result.
