COROMANDEL: RELIGIOUS MATTERS.

The Key. J. Buller arrived in the ' Challenger ' on Saturday, and held two services I on the following day in the building adjoin* ing Messrs. Renshaw and Wilson s store. On Monday, about noon, the steamer ' Enterprise ' arrived with a largo party of i excursionists from the Thames, Amongst them was the "Rev. Mr. Williams, the new Wesleyan minister, who it is hoped will be i stationed at this place. No better spot could have been chosen for an outing of such a character than Preece's Point; for the many delightful views obtainable therefrom, and its contiguity to the sea, at once renders it a place of unusual attraction. Subse* Suentlytheßev. Messrs. Buller and Williams, aptain Richards* and other gentlemen, visited Mi?. MaOall, at Kapanga, m order to : see the site whereon the new- Wesleyaa chapel i8 to be erected. The piece of land which Mr. McCall has so generously given, for the erection of a place of worship is close to the main road, in front of his house, and is generally regarded as a very eligible situation for such a building. About 6 p.m., all having re- embarked on board the steamer, she steered away for the Thames, all apparently having thoroughly enjoyed themselves with such an excellent davJs recreation. As a sign of the prosaMg^kf this important district the religious^pHent is showing increased vitality. No sooner is the announce* ment made of a new Wesleyan chapel than * I strong movement is heard of for the purpose of taking active steps for the erection of another Roman Catholic place of worship. The building so long in use is found totally inadequate to meet the requirements of an increasing population, and a meeting of those interested in such a good cause was held on the Ist instant. Mr. Lynch, in the most liberal and handsome manner, has given ft piece of land at Kapanga for the erection of: a suitable building, and already upwards of £100 has been promised towards the expense of erectinj; the chapel. —[Correspondent.}
